Support Canada and purchase Canadian made products from Canadian businesses!
It is difficult to know at this current time if the current signed CUSMA/USMCA free trade agreement between Canada, USA and Mexico is an agreement that will ever be effective again as the USA decided to start imposing tariffs of up to 50% on many products manufactured in Canada and imported into the USA. The reason for these tariffs is the claim that discriminatory Canadian trade practices are taking place. Canada has in turn imposed matching counter tariffs on products manufactured in the USA and imported into Canada to protect Canadian workers and industries.
So what does this all mean for you, our customer?
The Geo. H. Hewitt Co. Limited manufactures and supplies our products from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. For well over 100 years, we have purchased products and raw materials from both Canada and the USA in order to manufacture and supply the very best products possible for our customers. Not every item we require is available in both Countries and there are many components and items that are exclusive to one country or the other. Therefore during this period of time, the cost of tariffs are unavoidable and may add cost to some of our products. We are proudly Canadian and will always support Canadian business by buying Canadian products whenever possible but it is a complicated supply chain that we navigate on a daily basis and the rules keep changing. We greatly appreciate all of our customers and their business no matter where they are located and sincerely thank you for that business. We will continue to offer you the highest quality products and the lowest price possible.
To our customers in the USA.
The Geo. H. Hewitt Co. Limited will provide you with high quality Canadian made products. The Geo. H. Hewitt Co. Limited, a Canadian owned and operated Company does not pay any USA imposed tariff to your Government. You will be charged the tariff by the US Custom and Border Protection Agency (CBP) along with any other taxes and duties when your product enters into the USA. This may be billed to you directly from CBP or may be billed to you through your courier or freight company. You can click on this link for information regarding this. www.cbp.gov/newsroom/announcements/official-cbp-statement-tariffs
UPS is the preferred and only international courier which can transport all products from us to you efficiently. UPS will in many cases bill you for the tariffs, etc. directly rather than CBP holding your goods and sending you a separate bill for tariffs. If you have a UPS account number please provide this at the time of ordering. If you do not specify a courier we will quote you a shipping cost using our UPS account. Our quoted shipping cost will not include any tariff cost as we are unable to calculate those costs. UPS will bill you directly for those costs.
For any other requested shipping method, that particular courier may add the tariff cost you must pay to the quote which we will provide you with. In this case, we are charging you your calculated tariff cost as part of your shipping cost and the courier then pays that cost on your behalf to the USA.
When we purchase raw materials or finished goods from any USA supplier, we are imposed the Canadian counter tariff on select items at our Canadian customs when the goods cross the border at the calculation the Canadian Government has established.
